Areas of Emphasis
Taking into consideration these characteristics and the areas of emphasis established in the law, the Council will support those activities that are geared toward advocacy, (especially self-advocacy), systemic change and capacity building for this population and that respond to the priorities established in the 5-year plan.
The 5-year Plan 2012-2016 2012 a 2016 emphasizes the following areas: education and early intervention, employment, health, housing, recreation, transportation, formal and informal community supports, and quality of life geared toward the prevention of abuse and neglect and the implementation of the laws that protect this population, as well as providing training and technical assistance to professionals that provide direct or indirect services to the population with developmental disabilities
